Product Information
But if you require information on our returns
policy, sizing or care for your uniform or other equipment, please read the
information below.
Sizing
At the bottom of this page is a diagram and size
chart for Judo uniforms. It gives approximate dimensions of Judo weave uniforms.
Please use it only as a guide, and order slightly larger than required as all
cotton products will shrink when washed.

Care of Cotton Uniforms:
Cotton is a natural product and is ideal for body
contact but it does require some special attention. If you follow these
guidelines your product should give good service:
-
To avoid shrinkage wash in cold water. Hot
water will shrink more than cold.
-
Allow for some shrinkage when selecting your
uniform.
-
Take care with clothes driers - if a hot
setting is used while still wet, this will have the same effect as washing
in hot water.
-
Do not wash with coloured items. Colours may
run. Keep coloured belts separate from jacket and trousers.
-
Do not leave your uniform wet. Once washed
hang it in fresh circulating air. Leaving wet will cause it to rot or go
mouldy. Do not leave it in the clothes basket. Same applies if the uniform
falls off the clothes line - hang it back up or it will stay wet and may
also get grass stain.
-
After training hang in fresh air to dry.
Leaving the uniform rolled up and moist with sweat is worse than leaving it
wet and will encourage decay and mould.
-
When selecting a uniform for grappling always
select a cloth-weight that is strong enough. Economising on a light uniform
may prove more expensive in the longer term as it will not last as long.
Heavy grappling requires heavyweight strong weave fabric.
-
Keep the uniform clean - personal hygiene is
important when working closely with training partners.
-
When new, uniforms may feel a little
stiff. Usually the fabric softens after a few wearings.
Hakama
-
Hakama are used in training of arts used by
the Japanese Samurai, such as Aikido and swordsmanship - Batto-Jutsu,
Ken-Jutsu, Iaido, Kendo. They add an element of formality and tradition to
the training.
-
Hakama need to be kept neatly folded. If you
do this, ironing will be minimised and the garment will keep its appearance
during training.
-
The hakama should be ironed if out of shape.
A wrinkled hakama is not acceptable for training.
-
Diferent styles of swordsmanship or Aikido
recommend diferent lengths. Some like the feet covered to disguise footwork,
while others like the hem a few inches off the floor to avoid tripping.
Remember that when the hips are lowered for kamai, the hem also drops a
little.
-
Front ties go around the body one and a half
times and are tied at rear.
-
The plastic toggle is inserted into the obi
at the back to hold the hakama up at the back. Back ties are tied at the
front under the belt knot.
Belts:
-
Belts are cotton. Most uniforms are supplied
with a belt, except heavyweight karate uniforms. Where supplied with the
uniform, a white belt is included and is a length considered appropriate by
the manufacturer for that size of suit.
-
Coloured belts can be ordered. Children's
belts are 2m length and Adult belts are 3m length. If too long they can be
shrunk in hot water or cut to length and hemmed, or the knot tied
differently to use some of the excess length.
-
Special embroidered belts are available for
instructors and black belts. Names can be embroidered on any belt but there
is a charge and the cost is the same as for the instructor's special belt.
Weapons:
-
Weapons are dangerous!
-
Action Martial Arts Supplies Ltd and
Samurai-Arts accept no responsibility for injury caused through use or
misuse of weapons we supply. Where practicable we restrict supply to
registered martial arts instructors.
-
Where weapons are used for contact this is at
the risk of the purchaser and product life will be reduced.
-
Wooden and metal weapons are intended for
kata use (forms) and not intended for heavy impact. Some wear and damage,
and possibly breakage must be anticipated where heavy contact occurs. In
these circumstances injury is also highly possible to yourself or to your
training partner.
-
Where heavy impact is intended weapons should
be specially manufactured for the application out of a suitably strong type
and grade of wood. Standard weapons should not be used.
-
Steel blades are sharp enough to cause injury
- take care. Tips are also sharp and may injure. Train in an area that
naturally prevents people from approaching without your knowledge.
-
For these reasons, weapons should be used
under instruction of a competent and responsible instructor.
Instructional Videos
-
Training videos will soon be available in our
Shoppe.
-
The information contained in these videos has
potential to cause harm and may be dangerous. Any decision to view the video
or to practice the techniques shown is done at risk of the purchaser. If
this risk is not acceptable, do not purchase or view these products.
-
Techniques should not be shown to others.
-
These are intended for use under guidance of
an experienced instructor.
-
They include dangerous techniques which must
be used very cautiously. If the principles are not understood the techniques
should not be practiced as you may be doing harm to yourself or your
partner.
-
Martial arts ettiquette dictates that you
take good care of your training partner, respect their safety do not proceed
with any movement that threatens their well-being.
-
Special conditions and registration as a
member of "Samurai-Arts" is required before video products will be
supplied. Students are required to undertake a prescribed course of study,
undertake proficiency gradings and to follow the course in a set sequence.

Satisfaction guarantee:
Please use the size chart to ensure the correct size is ordered for your body
size, and an allowance made for shrinkage (all cotton goods may shrink during
washing). Exchanges can be made providing the garment has not been worn during
training, is unwashed and in original packaged condition. A surcharge will be
made where replacement is due to incorrect selection.
Quality guarantee:
Uniforms are of guaranteed high quality but care should be
taken to order a uniform of the correct size and fabric weight, consideration
being given to body-weight, intensity of training and frequency of usage. For
example a 450 gm fabric weight is not considered suitable for a heavy person who
trains intensively on a regular basis, whereas a 900 gm uniform is recommended
for high usage applications. Please examine the uniform upon arrival. Should a
product defect be encountered, please return the product (packaged & prior
to use) freight prepaid to Action Martial Arts Supplies Ltd for a
replacement uniform. Freight is not charged for the replacement uniform in this
instance.
